The Competition Council has extended its investigation into the Romanian timber market and has
carried out new unannounced inspections at the offices and branches of six companies operating in this sector.
field: Holzindustrie Schweighofer SRL, Egger Romania SRL, Kronospan Sebeș SA, Silva
Logistic Services SRL, Alredia SRL and Lacul Codrilor SRL.
"New leads have emerged that have prompted us to expand our nationwide investigation into
possible agreements between companies in the industry to share the market, sources of
supply and pricing in tenders organised by the Romsilva. These
new clues led us to extend the investigation to the national level," said Bogdan
Chirițoiu, President of the Competition Council, in a press release posted on the institution's website.
The documents collected during the inspections are being analysed by the Romanian competition authority,
as part of the specific investigation procedures.
We recall that earlier this month, the Competition Council launched an investigation
on possible agreements between companies active in the wood processing market with a view to
market sharing, sources of supply, and allocation of shares (volume of wood
intended for marketing) at a minimum price in the context of auctions organised by the Forestry Directorates
Alba and Hunedoara.
The Competition Authority is also carrying out a sector inquiry into the
wood in which the structures and mechanisms of operation are analysed. In the month
August 2015, in the preliminary report of the study, the Competition Council made a number of
recommendations for improving the competitive environment in this sector.
