About holiday homes on pylons as well as those built by CASArbor at Sfântu Gheorghe I wrote here and here. I wasn't going to revisit the subject, but the interest and comments on episode 2 of the series, already published on the youtube Wood Magazine and which you can see at the end of the article, prompted me to make some clarifications. We want our films to be an important source of information for you and therefore I think we need to make all the necessary clarifications, where the information has not been well understood, and elaborate on the topics we have only touched on tangentially. Also, some opinions about the company in Sfântu Gheorghe, as well as personal experience from a holiday spent in such a house, may be useful to those who are thinking of building a holiday home on pillars.
Frequently asked questions
The questions below are the ones you ask on youtube or in articles. Even though I have answered directly to those who have asked, I consider the information of interest and that is why it is the subject of this article. As we receive more, the questionnaire will be completed to be as useful as possible. So:
Can they be inhabited all year round? As they are delivered, they cannot be used with us throughout the year. They are holiday homes that have no heating. In other regions, such as campsites in France and Italy, where CASArbor's main customers are, they can be lived in permanently. Here, with basic facilities, they can be lived in from spring to autumn. As an additional option, for a fee, the cottage can be equipped with electric heating.
Are there any additional options to be inhabited in winter? On request, thermal insulation can be added and double glazed windows can be fitted. However, the strength structure cannot be altered, as this is a series production.
How well insulated are they? The houses are insulated with a 40 mm layer of thermal insulation (basalt wool). Insulation is also fitted to the floor and roof. The windows have shutters on the inside, which both provide shading and add protection.
How is electricity and water provided? The house is being sold with all trails installed. It just needs to have a water source, power source, sewer or septic tank where it is installed.
What is included in the price of the house? The price of the Cape Town model, the one shown in the video, is 109,000 lei/22,700 euro. At this price you get a turnkey house where you only need to bring your clothes. The house includes all the furniture (beds, wardrobes, tables, chairs, bathroom and kitchen furniture), all the electrical system (sockets, switches, trays, lamps), electric cooker, sink in the kitchen and bathroom with batteries, shower, toilet, central heating. The price includes the installation which takes 2-3 days from the time of installation of the poles.
What should I do if I want such a house? You need to contact the company (0721.413.517 - Dana Neagu), choose the model and sign a contract. The manufacturer assures us that the house will be ready within a month. Soon the casarbor.ro website will be ready, where you will find all the contact details. For now, for models and how to work, you can visit casarbor.com
Passion for wood and attachment to place, brand and team
Dana Neagu, the company's manager, has a cult for wood. She considers it an extraordinary material whose second life is to be transformed into homes or furniture for the joy and help of people. At the same time, she believes we have an obligation to give back to nature what we take from it. Every year he organises seedling planting events in which the whole company participates as one big family. He is always looking for volunteers so that these actions can grow.
Although she has been away from the country for a long time, she is strongly attached to these places. She has managed to transform the site of the old woodworking factory in Sfântul Gheorghe, which has become a ruin, into a neat and clean place that produces houses that are appreciated in Europe. He is always looking for solutions to develop the business and increase the value of the products manufactured. Since last year the factory has been equipped with an autoclave that treats wood by pressure impregnation so that it becomes highly resistant to the outside.
I lived in a house like this in Normandy, in a campsite on the North Sea
I want to tell you a few words about this experience to understand what a well-made wooden holiday home means. A few years ago I was on holiday in Normandy. In order to get a better price on accommodation we decided to stay in a campsite on the North Sea coast. Those who have been there know what strong winds can be. Seeing what the weather is like, I thought I had made a bad choice and it was going to be a wasted holiday. Not only was it not, it was one of the most successful holidays ever.
The wooden house - with open kitchen, living room, 3 bedrooms, shower and toilet - was well insulated and warm. Even though outside the wind blew hard all the time, inside we didn't feel it at all. The wood, with which the house was clad inside, provided a pleasant ambience and warmth. Everything was so well organized inside that we didn't feel crowded at all, we had everything we needed and we could all cook and eat at home without any problems. It was a great holiday done for much less money than staying in a hotel, but with all the necessary comforts of a wooden holiday home.
One such house is Cape Town, which you can see below.
