Glennon Brothers, an Irish woodworking company now in its third generation of family ownership, announced on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the acquisition of Pontrilas Group, according to an official statement published on LinkedIn.
The Pontrilas Group, founded in 1947 by the Hickman family, is a British family-owned company with over 70 years in business, strategically located on the Welsh border. The company has over 530 employees and a turnover of £120 million.
Mike Glennon, representing the company, said, “This represents a significant moment in the history of Glennon Brothers, which dates back to 1913. The acquisition provides our customers with an enhanced range of products and services as well as increased manufacturing capacity for the future.”
Production Capabilities and Vertical Integration
Glennon Brothers, founded in 1913 in Longford, Ireland, is active in the woodworking, timber-framed house manufacturing and energy sectors. The company says it operates green technology solutions in all segments of its business.
Pat Glennon said the integration of Pontrilas Group will strengthen the company's ability to operate “completely from forest to final delivery”, providing a complete solution for softwood lumber in the UK and Irish markets.
The Pontrilas Group benefits from substantial investment over many years and is positioned as one of the UK's leading independent timber and packaging manufacturers.
Background to the Transaction
Jonathan Poynton, CEO of Pontrilas, said the company's team is “delighted to join the Glennon Brothers family of companies” and looks forward to “exciting times ahead for the enlarged business”.
The transaction closed on January 27, 2026. Financial details of the acquisition value have not been disclosed by either party.
The European woodworking industry is on a consolidation trend, with medium and large companies looking to optimize supply chains and increase production capacity to meet market demands. According to industry data, 67% of manufacturers in the sector plan to adopt artificial intelligence technologies by 2026 to optimize production processes.
