I want it to be so big that it won't fit through the door, so I started designing my first double bed. Keeping in mind the mattress size of 1800x2000mm and the fact that I wanted to save as much storage space as possible I started sketching different variations, the final one is in the picture below.<\/p>\n

Because I was going to assemble the bed on site, the whole spectrum had to be modular. So the structure of the bed was made from molid<\/a>, being quite many, 24 in number and not visible, we used the \"pocket hole<\/a>\" to save time.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Facets are made of MDF<\/a> 18mm, I should mention that this was my first time working with MDF. I had read before how much dust it produces and how harmful it is, a mask with filters is a must in addition to proper ventilation.<\/p>\n

To give stability and support to the MDF boards that would \"wrap\" the bed, we used 100x120mm beams on each side.<\/p>\n

The facings were fixed to the bed frame using wood glue and screws, the holes were masked with putty.<\/p>\n

The bedsprings were made of 40 slats 50mm wide and 18mm high.<\/p>\n

The drawers, six in number, were also made of 12mm MDF, the size of one being 1000x700x300mm, their mobility being made on 25mm unidirectional wheels.<\/p>\n

The handles are handcrafted from 12mm diameter jute rope.<\/p>\n

For the finishing part we used chalk-based paint in two shades, white and gray. The advantage of this paint is that it is easy to apply and the surfaces to be painted do not require any preparation beforehand, it adheres well to almost any surface.<\/p>\n

After a first coat of white, we continued with two coats of gray. After drying them by selective sanding, I achieved the desired vintage effect. The final coat is a colorless wax for protection.<\/p>\n

I was undecided about the bed headboard, finally going for a very simple option... slatted doors.<\/p>\n

A final accessory was the LED strip glued under the bed frame for a special effect.<\/p>\n
