I thought I'd tell you more about its creator, a remarkable young Danish artist. His name is Thomas Dambo. He works on his projects with recyclable materials that he and his team collect from Copenhagen's garbage bins.

An atypical artist

Ever since he was a child, Thomas liked to build all kinds of things, some of them even out of salvaged wood from his neighborhood. After high school he decided to become a carpenter, but soon realized that this repetitive day-to-day work was not what he wanted and decided to attend Kolding School of Design.

Ever since he was at school he discovered the extraordinary potential of the things people throw away. He was especially intrigued by how much wood, how much construction plywood, was thrown away. One day, discovering a large trash container full of such plywood, he had the idea for his first big street art project - Happy City Birds. He has since built more than 3000 bird houses in cities around the world.

Happy City Birds

Steve the Shark

Snorra of Suwannee

Copenhagen workshop

After leaving school, Thomas set up his own studio in Copenhagen, where he and his team create giant sculptures out of the waste collected from containers.
