IKEA recalls GOTHEM lamp and lamp bases

IKEA is recalling all GOTHEM floor lamp and lamp bases due to risk of electric shock after two customers and an IKEA employee identified damaged wiring inside. No injuries have been reported, but the three people noted how damaged cords can cause the metal base to become electrically charged and affect consumer safety.

IKEA does not compromise on product safety. If an IKEA product is at risk of being involved in an incident, immediate action is taken. Products have been recalled since February 2016 and IKEA immediately launched an internal investigation to find the cause of the problem.

The investigation revealed that during assembly the cables inside were twisted and possibly damaged. Broken cables can cause electrical charging of the metal base. The company is therefore reviewing assembly routines and testing methods during the production phase to ensure that the products will be safe to use.

GOTHEM products have also been tested and approved by external laboratories to verify compliance with current standards and legislation in each IKEA country and have passed all safety tests. In addition, IKEA has carried out additional tests to simulate everyday use.
Even if the product is working properly, IKEA recommends all customers who have a GOTHEM lamp base or lamp lamp base to stop using it and return it to the IKEA store for a full refund.

GOTHEM lamp bases and lamp bases have been sold in all countries where IKEA stores are located since October 2015.

Two types of GOTHEM products were sold in the IKEA store in Bucharest:
-35 GOTHEM lamp bases at the price of 185 lei with the following product code: 803.030.41
-45 GOTHEM lamp bases at the price of 89,90 lei with the following product code: 603.030.37

The IKEA store in Băneasa no longer has these products for sale and has not received any complaints from customers about any of them.
Customers who have purchased GOTHEM lamp bases and lamp bases are invited to the Customer Service department in the store to return the product and receive a full refund. Proof of payment (voucher) is not required.
