Frames and frames

I have always looked at frames as the frame that enhances the painting, mirror or photos. I always chose them very carefully, I looked for them to be as beautiful as possible, but I never thought that they could be the stars. At one point I needed a frame and knowing I had a few old frames in my attic, I thought I would try to adapt one of them for my project. So I brought them all up from the attic, dusted them off and laid them out on the table trying to pick the one I thought best suited. Looking at them I realized that nothing else was needed. They themselves were enough to decorate the wall. From this idea I realised that the frames could be used in many different ways and I thought you might be interested.

What you can do with old frames

They can be placed on the wall without framing a painting or photograph. Several of them, in different shapes and sizes, in the same or matching colours, can decorate the walls of your living room or bedroom beautifully.

A frame can be used to frame the base of the chandelier, making it stand out even more.

With an old frame and a wooden leg you can make an elegant coffee table.

With handles instead of a leg it can be turned into a serving tray.

Small frames can be used to frame the panel for heating or air conditioning programming or switches.

By adding hooks for hanging, a frame can be made into a holder for house or car keys or a holder for bracelets and necklaces.

7 or 8 frames can be joined together and turned into a calendar where weekly activities can be noted.

In the bathroom, the frames can have a dual role - decoration and towel rack or they can be used to make a cosmetic shelf.

If you put 2-3 layers of cloth of various heights on a table-top frame, you can turn it into a holder for pencils, pens, notes and other such things on your desk.

And I could go on with many more examples, but I think you get the idea. If you like a frame you can buy it even if you don't have a photo ready for framing. You can use it for another project. And you don't throw old frames away, you keep them for when you know how to use them.

  • Lots of ideas for future projects. I personally really liked the idea of the small legged table and the cosmetics shelf in the bathroom, so two more wonders to prepare. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • I love the way the frames look without the photos put on the wall! Thanks so much for the article! All the ideas are great
