Federico Uribe is a Colombian-born artist living in Miami. He is famous for his sculptures which are made from simple, ordinary objects. These objects include colored pencils.
Art from simple objects
The artist was born in Bogota, Colombia, where he went to school and university and then went to New York for a master's degree. After completing his master's degree he decided to go on a long study trip around the world and spent years in Cuba, Mexico, Russia and England, finally arriving in Miami.
His first manifestations as an artist are in painting, but at some point he discovers simple objects around him, which he begins to study and combine. This is when Federico Uribe the painter became a sculptor.
His sculptures are not those classical realizations that "pull" the object out of stone or marble. He builds and molds them in a curious and hardly predictable way.
Uribe uses colored pencils, electrical cords, shoelaces, screws to create his art. Up close, his sculptures invite you to touch them, to discover the details and connections between elements. But from a distance you see the shapes, volumes and color. The colored pencil sculptures are absolutely stunning.
Federico Uribe is a recognized artist with solo exhibitions in the USA, Colombia and other countries around the world.
