Trend for 2017 - Back to wood

I've known about this furniture and interiors trend since last year, but I was curious to see what the designers were recommending. From everything I've seen, the return to wood doesn't mean clunky carved wood furniture or rustic furnishings where wood is everywhere, even where it doesn't belong. It's about the idea of wood, about its natural beauty, about texture, about natural wood or natural colors, about natural shapes. And about combining it with other materials - metal, stone, glass, fabrics - in complete harmony, whether the decor is classic, modern or vintage.

The proposals from designers and furniture manufacturers for 2017 are as interesting as they come. Wood is used to furnish the entire home, whether it's an impressive house or a small apartment. We're talking about furniture, but also floors, walls, stairs, poles. Here are some examples to give you an idea of what these types of furnishings look like:

  • Modern and minimalist living room with wooden floors in a light natural color, in perfect combination with the simple poles and coffee tables.

  • Another living room, this time rustic, which follows another trend of the year, namely gadget free, where all the electronics - TV, sound system, etc - are hidden in the cupboards.

  • bedroom with simple, understated Japanese-influenced furnishings, with a wall decorated with irregular, back-lit veneered panels.

  • arranging a bedroom in a studio apartment so that the rest of the space can be used for the living room. The bedroom is simply built into the interior of the apartment with wooden panels, giving it a very youthful look.

The old bathroom furniture made of wood-derived panels, opaque-finished, white and sometimes very colorful, is replaced by natural wood furniture

or colored in natural colors and discreetly patinated, with a marble countertop, a popular combination this year.

The kitchen also features simple, natural-finished furniture, embellished with the color imperfections of wood.

Combining natural wood with marble, black or white, is both practical and very successful.

The finishes are not elaborate, no thick coat of varnish is applied because the texture of the wood must be felt. The wood is protected with non-gloss varnishes that give the most natural look.
Wood is used as close to its natural form as possible, with as little intervention as possible.

The 'gater plank' look is also appreciated, following the same idea of looking as natural as possible.

The trend back to wood is also visible in office furniture. Wooden legs have appeared on office chairs

and wood fittings for office storage.

The return to wood is, in my opinion, also very visible here. More and more people are discovering the natural beauty of wood and want to have at least some of their furniture or home furnishings made of wood. We all understand that wood doesn't necessarily have to mean heavy furniture and a glossy finish. It can be minimalist decor, it can be a natural look, it can be simple furniture. And all with wood and from wood, because this year wood is king.
