Trend for 2017 - Back to wood

I've known about this trend in furniture and interiors since last year, but I was curious to see what the designers recommended. From everything I've seen, the return to wood doesn't mean heavy carved wood furniture or rustic furnishings where wood is everywhere, even where it doesn't belong. It's about the idea of wood, about its natural beauty, about texture, about natural wood or natural colours, about natural shapes. And about combining it with other materials - metal, stone, glass, fabrics - in complete harmony, whether the décor is classic, modern or vintage.

The proposals from designers and furniture manufacturers for 2017 are as exciting as it gets. Wood is used to furnish the entire home, whether it's an impressive house or a small apartment. It's about furniture, but also floors, walls, stairs, polishes. To give you an idea of what these fittings look like, here are some examples:

  • Modern and minimalist living room with wooden floors in a light natural colour, perfectly combined with simple poles and side tables.

  • another living room, this time with a rustic feel, in line with another trend of the year, namely gadget free, when all electronics - TV, sound system, etc. - are hidden in cupboards.

  • bedroom with Japanese-influenced furniture, simple and sober, with a wall decorated with irregular, back-lit veneered panels.

  • fitting out a bedroom in a studio apartment so that the rest of the space can be used for the living room. The bedroom is simply built into the interior of the apartment with wooden panels, giving it a very youthful look.

The old bathroom furniture made of wood-derived panels, finished opaque, white and sometimes very colourful, is replaced by natural wood furniture.

or coloured in natural colours and discreetly patinated, with a marble top, a very popular combination this year.

The kitchen also features simple, natural-finished furniture, embellished with the colourful imperfections of wood.

The combination of natural wood with marble, white or black, is both practical and very successful.

Textured, structured wood is worn, with cracks and knots left exposed, both on table tops and floors.

The finishes are not elaborate, no thick coat of varnish is applied because the texture of the wood must be felt. The wood is protected with gloss-free varnishes that give as natural a look as possible.
Wood is used as close as possible to its natural form, with as little intervention as possible.

The 'gater plank' look is also appreciated, following the same idea of looking as natural as possible.

The trend back to wood is also seen in office furniture. Wooden legs have appeared on office chairs

and wood fittings for office storage.

The return to wood is, in my opinion, also very visible in our country. More and more people are discovering the natural beauty of wood and want to have at least some of their furniture or home furnishings made of wood. We all understand that wood doesn't necessarily have to mean heavy furniture and a glossy finish. It can minimalist decor, it can natural look, it can simple furniture. And all with wood and from wood, because this year wood is king.
