Pylon holiday homes, as well as those built by CASArbor in Sfântu Gheorghe I wrote here and here. I wasn't going to revisit the topic, but the interest and comments on episode 2 of the series, already published on the youtube Wood Magazine and which you can see at the end of the article, led me to make some clarifications. We want our movies to be an important source of information for you and that's why I think we need to make all the necessary clarifications where the information was not well understood and to expand on the topics that we only touched on tangentially. Also, a few opinions about the company from Sfântu Gheorghe, as well as personal experience from a vacation spent in such a house, may be useful to those who are thinking of building a holiday home on pillars.
Frequently Asked Questions
The questions below are the ones asked by you on youtube or in articles. Even if I have answered directly to those who have asked, I consider the information of interest and that is why it is the subject of this article. As we receive more, the questionnaire will be added to be as useful as possible. So:
Can they be inhabited all year round? As delivered, they cannot be used all year round. They are vacation homes that have no heating. In other regions, such as campsites in France and Italy, where CASArbor's main customers are, they can be lived in permanently. Here, with basic facilities, they can be used from spring to fall. As an additional option, for a fee, the cottage can be equipped with electric heating.
Are there additional options for winter living? On request, the thermal insulation layer can be added and double-glazed windows can be fitted. However, the structure cannot be altered because it is still a series production.
How well are they insulated? The houses are insulated with a 40 mm layer of thermal insulation (basaltic wool). Insulation is also fitted to the floor and roof. The windows have shutters on the inside, which both provide shading and add extra protection.
How is electricity and water provided? The house is sold with all the routing installed. All that is required is that where it is installed, there must be a water supply, electricity supply, sewer or septic tank.
What is included in the price of the house? The price of the Cape Town model, as shown in the video, is 109.000 lei/22.700 euro. At this price you get a turn-key house where you only need to bring your clothes. The house includes all the furniture (beds, wardrobes, tables, chairs, bathroom and kitchen furniture), all the electrical system (sockets, switches, wiring, lamps), electric cooker, kitchen and bathroom sink with batteries, shower, toilet, central heating. The price also includes installation, which takes 2-3 days from the moment the poles are installed.
What do I have to do if I want such a house? Contact the company (0721.413.517 - Dana Neagu), choose the model and sign a contract. The manufacturer assures us that the house will be ready within a month. Soon the website casarbor.ro will also be ready, where you will find all the contact details. For now, you can go to casarbor.com
Passion for wood and attachment to place, brand and team
Dana Neagu, the company manager, has a cult for wood. She considers it an extraordinary material whose second life is when it is transformed into houses or furniture for people's enjoyment and help. At the same time, he believes we have an obligation to give back to nature what we take from it. Every year she organizes seedling planting actions in which the whole company participates as one big family. He is always looking for volunteers to help these actions grow.
Although she has been out of the country for a long time, she is strongly attached to these places. She has succeeded in transforming the site of the old wood-processing factory in St. Gheorghe, now a ruin, into a neat and tidy place that produces houses that are appreciated in Europe. He is always looking for solutions to develop the business and increase the value of the products made. Since last year the factory has been equipped with an autoclave that treats the wood by pressure impregnation so that it becomes very resistant to the outside.
I lived in a house like this in Normandy, in a campsite on the North Sea
I want to tell you a few words about this experience to give you an understanding of what a well-made wooden vacation home is all about. A few years ago we were on vacation in Normandy. To get a better price on accommodation we decided to stay in a campsite on the North Sea coast. Those who have been there know what strong winds can be. Seeing the climate, I thought we had made a bad choice and it would be a wasted vacation. Not only was it not, it was one of the most successful vacations.
The wooden house - with open kitchen, living room, 3 bedrooms, shower and toilet - was well insulated and warm. Even though the wind was always blowing strongly outside, we didn't feel it inside at all. The wood, with which the house was clad on the inside, provided a pleasant ambience and warmth. Everything was so well organized inside that we didn't feel cramped at all, we had everything we needed and could all cook and eat at home without any problems. It was a great vacation for a lot less money than staying in a hotel, but with all the necessary comforts of a wooden vacation home.
One such house is Cape Town, which you can see below.
