House in Miroslava - Façade insulation with wood fiber thermosystem

This episode on the road to house of Miroslava is dedicated to insulation and exterior finishing. The healthy lifestyle of Constantin Budeanu, the owner of the house, is also reflected in the choice of materials for the facade of the house. Wood fibre products were used for both insulation and exterior cladding of the brick walls. Silicate primer was used for finishing, directly on the board to ensure moisture resistance, followed by the application of the patching compound and decorative paint. Both are from Gutex and are special products for finishing wood fibre boards.

Tiling brick walls

The exterior walls of the house were clad with well-dried wooden frames and treatment against carrion with Holzwurmfrei, a material based on natural silicon salts. Gutex Thermoflex wood fibre insulation was inserted in the spaces between the uprights, which are 60 cm apart. The system was closed with rigid ISOPLAAT Windbarrier boards, fastened to the wooden frames with nickel-plated screws.

You will also see in the video, when insulating the facade, Florin Voșloban (Naturalpaint) insists on a few rules to follow when installing rigid tiles. First of all, the joints between the tiles should not be made on the corners of windows or doors. The distance from these corners must be at least 20 cm. Another rule is to leave an expansion gap between the boards, a gap of 2-3 mm that allows them to expand when they absorb moisture from the finishing layers. Lack of space will lead to stresses when moisture is absorbed which will lead to cracking of the primer and facade paint.

On the facade there will be areas clad with stone, which despite its weight of 60 kg/m², will be supported by the fibreboard. On the portions where there will be no stone, Gutex decorative paint will be applied and mineral paint as a final coat.

Insulation materials

The two layers - the mattresses and the rigid wood fibre boards - provide thermal and sound insulation for the house.

GUTEX Thermoflex is a fibre-woven insulation used in the structure. Flexible wood fibre mattresses are easily installed between rafters, on ceilings and on wooden or metal support structures mounted on the interior or exterior walls of the house. They adapt easily to different spaces and provide protection against extreme temperatures in both summer and winter. The mattresses are open to diffusion and are vapour permeable, helping to regulate indoor humidity. In addition to thermal insulation, Gutex Thermoflex also provides very good sound insulation.

ISOPLAAT Windbarrierare porous, compact and moisture-resistant fibreboard insulation boards that also provide wind protection. The thermal conductivity of the panels is 0.049 W/mK and significantly improves the temperature of the walls. The panels also contribute to sound insulation by preventing the penetration of external noise and attenuating noise and echoes generated inside. The tiles are used as wind protection, insulation and reinforcement elements in the construction of external walls, ceilings and roofs or as support elements for thermal insulation layers.

All the products used to finish and insulate the interior and exterior of the house in Miroslava are in the Naturalpaint portfolio.
