Presentation of the MP series of Wood-Mizer four-side planer/trimmers

Wood-Mizer offers a range of 4-sided planing/trimming machines. The information in this article will help you understand the differences between them and choose the one that suits you for your purchase.

Wood-Mizer's smallest and most affordable four-sided planer/trimmer, MP260, is offered in two options - MP260ECO and MP260PRO.
 MP260ECO machine is a basic 4-sided planer/profiler, while the MP260PRO variant has 3 main improvements:
1.    A large viewing window to easily monitor the processing process.
2.    A variable feed rate of 2-12 m/min helps to streamline production and achieve a superior finished surface when working with large hardwood planks.
3.    The upper horizontal cutting head is driven by a 4 kW motor which allows smooth finishing at higher feed speeds.

Two models of 4-side planer/trimmers are available in larger sizes and processing capacities for higher throughput and faster material planing/trimming - MP360 and MP365.

Model MP365 is a unique 4-sided planer/trimmer with 5 cutting heads, which is driven by 5 separate motors. The unique design allows for additional machining and secondary work tools on the 5th spindle. This will allow you to use a higher feed rate, use machining tools that use 3000, 6000, 9000 or 14000 revolutions per minute to create exclusive profiles very easily in one pass.

Wood-Mizer offers a wide range of planing and profiling knives made from HM (carbide tipped) and HSS steel. HM knives are recommended for plywood, HDF, MDF and other engineered wood products. HSS knives are for planing and profiling soft and hard woods. All four-sided planers/profilers are supplied with HSS planer knives for all cutting ends at the time of purchase. Custom shaped profiling knives can be ordered from Wood-Mizer distributors.

Variable forward speed

The variable speed feed system is driven by a separate motor. The forward speeds are as follows:
–    The forward speed on the MP260ECO is set to 5m/min
–    The feed speed on the MP260 can be adjusted between 2-12 m/min
–    The feed speed on the MP360 machine can be adjusted between 3-15 m/min
–    The feed speed on the MP365 machine can be adjusted between 3-15 m/min

Robust structure, characteristic of all Wood-Mizer planing/profiling machines

Wood-Mizer planing/profiling machines are built using a combination of steel and cast iron. Cast iron components provide high vibration damping, high durability, non-stick characteristics and resistance to deformation. We machine a block of cast iron to the desired dimensions using a CNC cutter to produce a perfectly flat surface. Cast iron is used as a material for the manufacture of planing/profiling machine tables (inside the planing/profiling machine between the cutting heads).

Optional lubricant is available for the cast iron surface, which protects it from corrosion and reduces friction with the material being machined. The steel components of the planing/profiling machines are corrosion resistant and extremely durable. Steel has a superior strength-to-weight ratio.
–    The MP260ECO and MP260 models can be optionally equipped with 4 wheels, making these machines very portable.
–    The construction of the MP360 and MP365 allows them to be lifted and moved easily with a forklift.

Multiple sawdust extraction points

Four-sided planer/trimmers have 4 sawdust extraction points (MP365 includes 5 sawdust extraction points) that are located near each cutting head to prevent sawdust build-up in the machine. Superior sawdust extraction allows for good processing - sawdust does not accumulate around the cutter heads and on the feed rollers. Wood-Mizer offers a range of sawdust extraction systems - from hoses to connectors and sawdust extractors.

Central control panel

Allows the operator to start/stop all cutting heads and feed motor separately. This feature helps you reduce power consumption and maintenance costs by using separate cutting heads when needed.
The control panel has an emergency stop button.

High processing capacity at low cost with Wood-Mizer planer/trimmers

If your projects require the planing and profiling of large lumber, you can increase throughput by running only the top and bottom ends, or only the top cutterhead.
