Wood-Mizer offers a range of 4-sided planing/trimming machines. The information in this article will help you to understand the differences between them and to choose the one that is right for you.
Wood-Mizer's smallest and most affordable four-sided planing/profiling machine, MP260, is offered in two options - MP260ECO and MP260PRO.
MP260ECO is a basic 4-sided planing/trimming machine, while MP260PRO variant has 3 main improvements:
1. A large viewing window to easily monitor the machining process.
2. A variable feed speed between 2-12 m/min helps to streamline production and achieve a superior surface finish when working with large hardwood planks.
3. The upper, horizontal cutting head is driven by a 4 kW motor for smooth finishing at higher feed speeds.
Two models of 4-side planing/profiling machines are available in larger sizes and processing capacities for higher throughput and faster material planing/profiling - MP360 and MP365.
Model MP360 has 3 improvements over the MP260:1. Superior material processing capability.
2. Larger material processing, superior power and versatility.
3. Adjust your car easier and faster.
Model MP365 is a unique 4-sided planing/trimming machine with 5 cutting heads, which is driven by 5 separate motors. The unique design allows for additional machining and secondary tooling on the 5th spindle. This will allow you to use a higher feed rate, use machining tools that use 3000, 6000, 9000 or 14000 revolutions per minute to create exclusive profiles very easily in one pass.
Wood-Mizer offers a wide range of planing and profiling knives made of HM (carbide tipped) and HSS steel. HM knives are recommended for plywood, HDF, MDF and other engineered wood products. HSS knives are for planing and profiling soft and hard woods. All four-sided planing/profiling machines are supplied with HSS planing knives for all cutting ends at the time of purchase. Custom shaped profiling knives can be ordered from Wood-Mizer distributors.
Variable feed speed
The variable speed advance system is driven by a separate motor. The feed speeds are as follows:
– MP260ECO MP260ECO feed speed is set to 5m/min
– The feed speed on the MP260 can be adjusted between 2-12 m/min
– The feed speed on the MP360 can be adjusted between 3-15 m/min
– The feed speed on the MP365 can be adjusted between 3-15 m/min
Robust construction, characteristic of all Wood-Mizer planing/profiling machines
Wood-Mizer Wood-Mizer planing/profiling machines are built using a combination of steel and cast iron. Cast iron components provide high vibration damping, high durability, non-stick characteristics and resistance to warping. We machine a cast-iron block to the desired dimensions using a CNC cutter, resulting in a perfectly flat surface. Cast iron is used as a material for manufacturing the tables of the planing/profiling machines (inside the planing/profiling machine between the cutting ends).
Lubricant is optionally available for the cast iron surface, which protects it from corrosion and reduces friction with the material being machined. The steel components of planing/profiling machines are corrosion resistant and extremely durable. Steel has a superior strength-to-weight ratio.
– The MP260ECO and MP260 models can be optionally equipped with 4 wheels, making these machines very portable.
– The construction of the MP360 and MP365 machines allows them to be easily lifted and moved using a forklift.
Multiple sawdust extraction points
Four-side planing/chipping machines have 4 sawdust extraction points (MP365 model includes 5 sawdust extraction points) that are located near each cutting head to prevent sawdust from accumulating in the machine. Superior sawdust extraction allows for good machining - sawdust does not accumulate around the cutting heads and on the feed rollers. Wood-Mizer offers a range of sawdust extraction systems - from hoses to sawdust connectors and extractors.
Central control panel
Allows the operator to start/stop all cutting heads and feed motor separately. This feature helps reduce power consumption and maintenance costs by using separate cutterheads when needed.
The control panel has an emergency stop button.
High machining capacity at low cost with Wood-Mizer planing/profiling machines
If your projects require the resawing and profiling of large dimension lumber, you can increase processing capacity by running just the top and bottom heads, or just the top cutter head. Wood Mizer Wood Mizer's planing/profiling machines are designed with a small footprint and superior planing and profiling capacity, the machine can find a use anywhere from hobbyists to professional commercial units with high production.
