Emil Baciu: The designer of perfect flows in timber construction

In the midst of all the hubbub at BIFE-SIM 2024, we also chatted with Emil Baciu. Emil exudes a contagious energy. Whenever we meet and talk, I am always surprised by the multitude of projects he is involved in. Considering that this year at BIFE-SIM, we, Revista din Lemn, started the Wood Hub project together with Emil and cadwork, we first discussed this and what we are aiming for with this project.

Workflow wizard

Emil is not just the cadwork representative in Romania. He is more like a modern Marco Polo of the wood industry, tirelessly traveling between production halls, design offices and classrooms, building a complex network of knowledge and efficiency.

"I'm a one-man show," he says with a sly smile, and I can almost see around him a virtual map of Romania, dotted with the locations of all his clients and partners. Each of his journeys seems to add new connections, reinforcing and extending this invisible network of expertise and innovation.

Master the wooden jigsaw puzzle

cadwork is not just a tool. It is more like a wizard's wand, able to transform chaos into order, complexity into simplicity.

"You see," he explains with characteristic energy, "with cadwork, wood construction manufacturers start from the architecture, the structure, then they export the production lists, the order lists, the optimized lists, and that way we get the project all the way to the end, to the export part on CNC machines and the assembly part." And as he talks, you can almost see the virtual pieces of wood assembling themselves into impressive structures.

The teacher redesigning the future

But Emil is not content to optimize just the present. He does the same with the industry's future, molding young minds with the same precision that cadwork designs.

When he talks about the master's program in Brasov, his eyes sparkle with pride. "Last year, together with the Faculty of Furniture Design and Wood Engineering in Brasov, we managed to set up this master's program, Wood Technology for Construction, to which students who are finishing architecture or construction can apply. They can study more the part of timber structures, they learn advanced level, that is we teach timber framing structures and in the future we hope to teach these innovative structures as well CLT.”

Architect of a new era in the wood industry

And as if optimizing the entire industry wasn't enough, Emil has recently ventured into a new ambitious project with Wood Magazine: Wood Hub.

"We want Romanian manufacturers who build houses, build swimming pools, build wooden structures to be able to find themselves under such an umbrella, this hub. We hope to bring together and bring as many manufacturers as possible, not only building manufacturers but also furniture manufacturers. To be represented here in Romania. There is such a tradition abroad and people know where to look. With a landmark like this it would be easier for the beneficiaries, the clients, to know where to do this. That's what I've wanted for a long time and I'm glad we could launch this project together." he passionately confesses.

The man who sees the forest and every single tree

There are some people without whom the Romanian timber construction industry would not be where it is today. Emil Baciu is one of them.

In Emil's universe, every wood builder is an opportunity to grow the industry, and every project is a chance to perfect the process. As the Romanian wood industry hesitantly steps into the era of digital optimization, Emil Baciu is there, present, as always, with a smile on his lips and his characteristic energy.

Below you can see exactly what Emil told us in a video filmed at BIFE-SIM 2024.
