GLULAM produces CLT structural panels on the first and only hydraulic pressing line in the country

GLULAM, cunoscută în special pentru producția de grinzi din lemn lamelat încleiar, a făcut un pas semnificativ în modernizarea și extinderea capacităților sale de producție. În anul 2023, compania a inaugurat prima și singura linie hidraulică de presare pentru panouri CLT (lemn lamelat încrucișat) din România. Această investiție strategică amplifică capacitatea firmei de a răspunde cererii crescânde pentru soluții structurale sustenabile în construcții.

Strategic investment at GLULAM, Targoviste

GLULAM Company, known for the production of glulam glued laminated timber beams and large glulam structures, continuously invests in modern production technologies. In 2023, it made a major investment at its factory in Târgoviște by installing the first hydraulic pressing line for the production of CLT structural panels. This is an important step for GLULAM, which thus becomes the first producer in Romania of CLT structural panels obtained by hydraulic pressing.

Noua linie de presare CLT, unică în țară, permite producerea de panouri mari, cu dimensiuni de până la 3,20 x 13,20 metri și grosimi de până la 400 mm. Aceste panouri, utilizate în construcții pentru pereți, planșee și acoperișuri sunt fabricate din lemn de rășinoase, asigurând atât rezistență structurală, cât și performanțe superioare de izolare termică și rezistentă crescută la foc.

Regarding the production of glulam beams, the company is certified by lCECON CERT institute for the production of glulam in strength classes GL 32h, GL 28h, GL 24h according to the European standard SR EN 14080:2013 and by Rina-COC for the use in the manufacturing process of spruce timber from forests managed with sustainable forest management - FSC. The company also has certified and operational Quality Management according to ISO 9001:2015, Environmental Management according to ISO 14001:2015 and Occupational Health and Safety Management according to ISO 45001:2018.

Its field of activity includes the design of glulam structures, the production of glulam beams, welded metal connections and high-density polyurethane foam sandwich insulating panels, as well as the assembly of glulam structures and insulating panels.

Panourile structurale CLT – materiale de construcție rezistente și ușoare

Panourile structurale CLT (cross-laminated timber) sunt produse revoluționare în industria construcțiilor, oferind o alternativă sustenabilă și extrem de eficientă la materialele tradiționale precum betonul sau oțelul. CLT-ul este compus din mai multe straturi de lemn de rășinoase dispuse perpendicular unul față de celălalt, ceea ce îi conferă o rezistență structurală remarcabilă. Această tehnică de laminare încrucișată a fost concepută pentru a valorifica la maximum proprietățile naturale ale lemnului, oferind stabilitate și rezistență mecanică superioară.

Tehnologia CLT a fost dezvoltată în Europa în anii 1980. Fabricarea implică un proces tehnologic avansat care include mai multe etape: sortarea lemnului, debitarea și rindeluirea acestuia, aplicarea unui adeziv special și dispunerea stratificată a panourilor, urmată de presarea sub o forță hidraulică mare. Panourile obținute au un număr impar de straturi, minimum 3, dar pot ajunge la 7 sau mai multe.

Datorită structurii sale încrucișate, CLT-ul este extrem de rigid și capabil să suporte încărcări mari, comparabile cu cele preluate de betonul armat. De asemenea, acest tip de panou are o greutate redusă în comparație cu betonul sau oțelul, ceea ce îl face ideal pentru construcțiile ușoare și pentru zonele cu activitate seismică ridicată. Greutatea specifică a panourilor CLT este de aproximativ 4-5 ori mai mică decât a betonului și zidăriei, acest lucru având un impact direct asupra calculelor de infrastructură și a costurilor de transport și manipulare a materialelor, precum și a duratei de montaj.

A versatile material for the future of construction

Utilizarea CLT-ului este tot mai populară în proiectele de construcții din întreaga lume, înscriindu-se pe un trend rapid ascendent, datorită caracteristicilor sale structurale, avantajelor ecologice și sustenabilității. Spre deosebire de producția de beton sau oțel, care consumă cantități mari de energie și eliberează dioxid de carbon în atmosferă, fabricarea panourilor CLT necesită mult mai puțină energie, iar lemnul, fiind un material regenerabil, stochează carbon pe toată durata de viață a produsului.

CLT contributes significantly to the realization of nZEB buildings due to its excellent thermal insulation characteristics. Wood has a low thermal conductivity (about 0.12 W/mK), which reduces the energy needed to heat and cool spaces, making these buildings more energy efficient. CLT panels also eliminate thermal bridging, ensuring high air tightness, which contributes to comfortable and healthy indoor environments.

Thanks to CLT's versatility and structural performance, this material is used in a wide range of construction applications. From single-family houses to high-rise buildings of up to 25 storeys, CLT can be used for exterior and interior walls, floors and roofs. In addition, CLT combines excellently with other glulam structural elements, providing flexibility for architects and engineers to create innovative structures.

GLULAM participation at the nZEB Expo in Cluj

In the context of the growing interest in sustainable and energy-efficient construction, GLULAM participated this year at the nZEB Expo in Bucharest, an event dedicated to the promotion of innovative technologies and materials for low-energy buildings. The public interest, the success of the fair and belonging to this ever-growing niche of timber construction and sustained in recent years, led the company to participate in the November edition of the fair, held at the BT Arena in Cluj Napoca.
