Södra, one of the leading players in the Swedish forest industry, has reported outstanding results for 2024, with an operating profit of SEK 2.63 billion (approximately EUR 230 million). In the current market environment characterized by global uncertainties and challenges in raw material supply, the company maintains its strong position and continues its sustainable development strategy.

The group's net sales reached SEK 29.49 billion (about EUR 2.58 billion), marking a slight increase on the previous year. The company's strong financial performance is also reflected in the Board of Directors' decision to distribute around two-thirds of the profit to members, amounting to SEK 1.75 billion (about €153 million).
"We delivered strong results in 2024, especially given the raw materials market environment in which we operate," said Lotta Lyrå, CEO of Södra. "We benefited in particular from high pulp prices and effective cost control, but we were challenged by high raw material prices and global uncertainty, which affected both market demand and logistics."
Innovation and adaptability in the face of challenges
To strengthen its long-term competitiveness, Södra made two important strategic decisions in 2024:
- Investment in the production of lignin kraft at the mill in Mönsterås
- Developing tannin production at the Värö plant
These new products will not only contribute to the company's profitability, but also represent an important step in the green transition and more efficient processing of raw materials.
The company's strategy demonstrates that the timber industry can successfully combine innovation and sustainability with economic performance, even in times of significant market challenges.
