When it comes to landscaping, it's like the rabbi joke.

If someone were to ask me how is better to furnish the home, classic or modern, I would answer just like in the Rabbi's joke. Do you know it?

Two people who disagree on a subject decide to go to the rabbi, who is recognized for his wisdom, to tell him which of them is right. The rabbi listens carefully to the first and says, "You are right." He listens with the same attention to the second and replies, "You are also right". Yitzchak, who happens to be there, asks him, puzzled, "How is that, Rabbi? They can't both be right!". And the wise Rabbi replied, "You are right too!"

Choosing to furnish your home in a modern way is not wrong, just as it is not wrong to furnish it in a classic way. The important thing is that the overall image should be cohesive, a whole, a welcoming, pleasant and useful space in which we recognize ourselves and feel at ease.

What's more, elements can be combined, with one component dominating and the other adding a touch of diversity, thus enhancing each other. In other words, in a modern interior, an old object, full of memories, will have its own charm. Just think how well your grandmother's old dowry chest or travel trunk would look in the corner of your minimalist apartment. It can double as a coffee table or, with a few throw cushions, a stylized sofa.

It works the other way around. A classic decor with old, heavy and bulky old furniture can be 'lightened' with a modern object. A chandelier, a simple coffee table with straight, metal legs, an armchair or modern chairs will make the room more inviting, less "awkward".

I have often come across the idea that an old house can only be decorated classically, that modern elements would not go well with the usual elements of old houses: high doors with many gems, clapboards, weathered parquet floors, old stoves, brick walls. Nothing could be more wrong. It can be modernized, with all these elements the old that highlights the new.

Also, nothing prevents us from furnishing a block apartment in a classic style, maybe only the dimensions 🙂 . The straight and simple lines of such an apartment can be the way classic furniture will be showcased.

The two styles can also be put together equally, resulting in a third style - fusion. To avoid going wrong, choose simple objects from each style to create a friendly environment. Don't clutter the space, don't try to fill every empty space with something. The more airy it is, the better it will be and the objects will be more visible.

As I was saying, we are all right. With one remark. All this planning should not be done haphazardly. We all have ideas, but we don't all know how to put them into the best possible concrete form. That's why there are people with a sense of aesthetics who do interior decoration. I don't mean to say that if you want to redecorate your studio apartment you have to hire an architect or a designer, but a little research beforehand doesn't hurt. Now there are a lot of possibilities to see spaces arranged according to what we think. There are specialists in the shops who can help us get the best color scheme. The important thing is to be open, to use them, and even if we start with the idea "I know best what is best for me", beware that it may not always work out in practice.

Yes, we know what we want, but maybe we don't always have the knowledge to get to the decor we want. Outside help, even if we find it all on our own, by looking in specialized shops, magazines, or on the internet, can save us from future disappointments. Because no matter how convinced we are that we have done it right, the first remark like "that small table looked better" or "the other color was better" may not convince us that we were right.
