Products from Kreidezeit are highly appreciated by those who want to protect wood with natural materials, without added binders or chemical additives. One such natural oil is this Pure solvent-free resistant oil. The absence of the solvent (turpentine) makes the oil odorless and very suitable for coating floors in children's rooms or wooden toys. The "Pure" in the name means that the oil contains no solvent or water, being composed exclusively of natural oils and resins that go into the wood.
Pure resistant oil can be used to treat wood, cork or stone surfaces indoors. It is very suitable for treating surfaces exposed to stress, especially floors, worktops (tables, massive countertops used in the manufacture of kitchen furniture), furniture, interior doors, beams, beams, pillars and interior cladding.
The properties that make it so special are:
- contains no solvents or water. Use at 100%, with no volatile organic compounds or other solvents to evaporate. Losses are related only to the method of application;
- is consistent, one application is sufficient. Only if the wood is very dry may a second coat be necessary;
- is very well absorbed in depth thanks to the linseed oil;
- gives antistatic properties to oiled wood;
- is transparent, with a very pleasant honey tint;
- easy to apply and repair in case of surface defects;
- sweat and saliva resistant according to DIN 53160;
- suitable for treating children's toys (according to DIN EN 71);
- does not form a film, so there is no danger of cracking;
- protects very well against damp, as water runs off oiled surfaces;
- The lack of film means that there is no risk of slipping on floors finished with this oil.
The application is very simple and can be done with a brush, rag, brush stroker or with a wand machine. The most suitable brushes or rollers are those with short bristles. Apply to clean and sanded wood with sandpaper 150-180 grain or medium sponge. After application allow the wood to absorb for 20-30 min. If the temperature is above 20ºC the time is reduced to 10-15 min. After this time wipe off the excess with vigorous circular movements with a clean cotton cloth. Wiping off the excess is mandatory to avoid sticky surfaces. A silky matt surface is obtained.
If you consider that another coat is needed, apply it under the same conditions. Application can be done at least 24 hours after the first coat. It is not necessary to sanding between layers, but you can do it if you find that the wood grain is high and the surface is not pleasant to the touch. With the second coat the amount absorbed will be much less.
The amount required for a coat is between 50 and 80 g/m², depending on the type of wood and how dry (moisture content) it is.
Maximum surface protection is achieved one month after application. During this period it is therefore recommended to avoid subjecting the surfaces to harsher actions. The oil is sufficient for surface protection, but if additional protection is desired wax. For cleaning oiled or waxed surfaces, use Marseille soap solution.
After application, the tools used can be cleaned with oil of turpentine balsam and then with a solution of Marseille soap. Brushes or paintbrushes should be kept in water as they may self-ignite. This phenomenon is specific to all oils and solvents derived from petroleum.
