Wood-Mizer at LIGNA 2023: two industrial sawing lines for log processing, the complete line of compact woodworking machines and the first battery-electric saw
At the LIGNA 2023 exhibition in Hanover, Germany, Wood-Mizer showcased a range of new solutions and machines that enable its customers to become more competitive, meet new challenges, create a variety of wood projects and generate profit by turning logs into finished products. The company remains true to its motto "From Forest to Final Form".
Make a profit by turning logs into timber
At LIGNA, Wood-Mizer has installed two industrial cutting lines for log processing. These lines consist of sawmills linked in a synchronous operating system by material conveyors that sort and transport lumber, planks, slats and sawdust for further processing. These features allow 100% to utilize the raw materials.
The first line is based on Wood-Mizer's top-of-the-range saw, industrial model WB2000, which features a hydraulic log-loading deck, an integrated automatic automatic plank removal conveyor and the industrial model premiered at LIGNA MR200 Double Arbor Multirip. The WB2000 was unveiled at LIGNA with a new operator's cab, from where the operator, using joysticks on the control panel, can control all line functions from log loading, to positioning material on the saw bed, to cutting and removing the finished planks from the saw for further processing.
Advantages of Wood-Mizer cutting lines:
- There is no need to pre-sort the logs
- Large logs up to 92 cm in diameter can be cut
- No peeling equipment required (the WB2000 has a built-in peeler to clean the log of bark at the entry point of the saw blade, which extends the life of the saw blade)
- Simple and economical maintenance of 50-75 mm wide sheets
- Ease of use: one operator controls all WB2000 functions and two other people operate the MR200 Multirip saw
- High-performance economical motors with low energy consumption
Wood-Mizer's second industrial line processes logs into pallet boards and consists of a TVS HEAVY DUTY double vertical TVS saw (this is the new version of the Wood-Mizer TVS model presented at LIGNA 2023), a log loading ramp and sorting equipment, the HR700 horizontal double cross-cut saw and the EG800 circular saw for processing boards.
At a separate stand, Wood-Mizer is showcasing its new division, Wood-Mizer Systems, which specializes in the design and manufacture of custom-made industrial saw lines for specific customer needs.
Tools that help you boost productivity
A widely used option to increase the productivity of the cutting operation is to add a circular and/or multi-rip (multi-blade) saw to the line. In this case, the bandsaw produces uncut boards, which are then passed through a circular/multirip saw with circular blades. At LIGNA, Wood-Mizer presented a wide range of circulars adapted to different customer requirements: models differing in power, performance, maximum size of the processed plank and price.
The compact EG100 compact circular with 7kW electric or 14HP gasoline engine and two 250mm diameter circular saws are excellent options for individual operators, including those using portable saws. The most popular model of the Wood-Mizer EG300 circular/multirip saw is equipped with a 15 kW or 18.5 kW electric motor, an individual control panel with electronic setwork and can be fitted with 2 to 5 circular saws with a diameter of 350 mm.
As part of the industrial lines on the Wood-Mizer stand, industrial versions of circular and multi-blade saws were in action, including an EG800 circular with a 30 to 55 kW motor and four 400 mm circular blades, as well as a Model MR200 Double Arbor Multirip with motors from 2×15 to 2×30 kW and up to 12 circular blades on each shaft capable of cutting up to 200 mm thick timber.
Switch to processing large logs with WIDE variants of LT models
New opportunities in the log market are opening new niches for sawmill operators. The availability of huge logs, which are difficult to transport and cut, but easy and inexpensive to purchase, has prompted Wood-Mizer to offer its customers the option of a WIDE (LAT) saw head, which is available on the LT line of saws. Models LT15WIDELT20WIDE, LT20WIDE, LT40WIDE and LT70WIDE presented at LIGNA are able to cut logs between 90 and 105 cm in diameter.
LX250 extra-wide saw with unique design offers even more options for processing wide planks. This machine with a wide cutting head that travels on two rails can cut logs up to 140 cm in diameter. For straightening and sanding wide material, Wood-Mizer has designed the MB200 SlabMizer, which allows operators to straighten planks up to 142 cm wide, with a five-knife carbide machining head and orbital sanding head attachment.
Work independently and be your own boss
Many Wood-Mizer mobile sawmill owners work on their own and perform contract lumber sawing at the harvesting site. For these customers, Wood-Mizer has introduced two new wide-head mobile saws, combining the advantages of mobility and large log processing.
Mobile saw LT15CLASSIC WIDE is an excellent affordable model with a segmented bed, while the LT20WIDE mobile saw is a more advanced solution as its bed can be equipped with different versions of the hydraulic log handling system, which is important when working with heavy logs. Both models create competitive advantages in new markets, including the growing need for urban wood processing.
At the Wood-Mizer stand, visitors had the opportunity to compare Wood-Mizer saw models in action. As the entire line of LT saws is showcased, the difference in machine control, speed and performance becomes clear. For example, the LT15CLASSIC saw with its low segmented bed, 7.5 kW motor and 32 mm web has both log loading and positioning done by hand. The fastest and most productive saw in the LT range, the LT70, has a multi-functional hydraulic system, 18.5 kW main motor, 600 mm diameter flywheel and uses a 38 mm blade.
All Wood-Mizer saws can be equipped with Setworks, an electronic device for programming the desired thickness of the cut plank, which automatically sets the saw head to the right height. The LT70 has Setworks as standard.
NEW Wood-Mizer at Ligna 2023! Cutting with green energy
At LIGNA 2023, Wood-Mizer unveiled the world's first battery-electric powered saw. This new power source option available for the LT15WIDE will allow operators to have an affordable electric saw with rechargeable batteries. The introduction of the Wood-Mizer battery-electric saw to the market is another step towards green energy use on our planet.
Wood-Mizer solutions for amateur woodworkers or small businesses
For woodworking enthusiasts, Wood-Mizer has introduced its smallest and most affordable saw, the LX50, which offers quality and precision cutting for small-scale operators.
Plus, complete line of compact woodworking machines Wood-Mizer was presented on a separate stand, including two new models, the MP280 four-side planer/trimmer and the MS750 panel saw. Also, Wood-Mizer CNC5003 automatic material processing machine Wood-Mizer CNC5003 was premiered at LIGNA 2023.
Wood-Mizer not only manufactures equipment but is also a major manufacturer and supplier of woodworking tools. A full range of ribbon saws, circular saws, frame saw blades, planing knives and routers was also on display at LIGNA as part of the Wood-Mizer TOOLS division, along with Wood-Mizer's Wood-Mizer blade maintenance equipment.
At LIGNA 2023, Wood-Mizer - more than 40 years after its founding - continues to bring innovation to the industry. These innovations are changing lives for the better, not only for Wood-Mizer users and equipment owners, but also for their communities, enabling them to fulfill their dreams, create new wood projects and grow their businesses "from forest to final form.
