Clever ideas for storage spaces

I don't think there's anyone who says they have enough storage space, but I don't think there's many people who want a house full of cupboards, where you're constantly scrubbing and bumping into a piece of furniture. And yet, we all have lots of things we use every day - clothes, shoes, books, cosmetics and many, many more - but also a problem finding a place for them. That's why maybe a few suggestions would help.

Another way of looking at narrow spaces

Making the most intelligent use of walls and narrow spaces is one of the ideas. There are spaces in the bathroom, for example, above the door or above the toilet that are not always used. With minimal fittings, you can get a place for towels or cosmetics.

Narrow and seemingly unusable spaces between doors or behind doors can, with a little imagination, become a place to put books, magazines or small boxes of useful items.

In taller houses, spaces close to the ceiling can be used for storage. Poles can be made on which baskets or boxes can be placed. Shelves can also be made around windows, providing a pleasant place to read or relax.

I found the bike storage solution in the picture below very clever and practical. I've always wondered what families do when they don't have a place to keep them. I think I've found the answer that may be useful to you too.

Shelves as partitions

Another way to get new storage space is to the use of partitions in shelving. This also separates the spaces, giving more privacy.

Recovery of space under the stairs

For houses or apartments with interior stairs, use of space under the stairssolves the problem of storage space very well. There are generous places that can be segmented so that different items can be stored without coming into contact.

Multiplying the usefulness of doors or furniture

Adaptation of furniture or other objects in the home, practically doubling their usefulness is another suggestion. Attaching shelves to the pantry, bathroom or closet door, a higher bed with 2 rows of shelves under it, a sofa that can also function as a storage chest, turning the bathroom door into a bookcase are just a few ideas.

Spaces in the home can be adapted and reinvented to suit everyone's taste and imagination. Any idea or solution also means a renovation of the space that can make it more pleasant, more useful and more ... at home.

  • Excellent article! I have a studio whose room has a beam above the windows. As there are about 40 cm free I said that there I will install shelves for books, I still have to find the craftsman to do this...
I liked the shelves mounted behind the door... after all, some cleverly crafted shelves are more useful than a huge cupboard.

    Have a nice day!
