Clever ideas for storage spaces

I don't think there's anyone who says they have enough storage space, but neither do many people who want a house full of cupboards, where you move from one place to another constantly rubbing and bumping into furniture. And yet, we all have lots of things we use every day - clothes, shoes, books, books, cosmetics and much, much more - but also a problem finding a place for them. So perhaps a few suggestions might help.

Another way of looking at tight spaces

Making the best use of walls and tight spaces is one idea. In the bathroom, for example, there are spaces above the door or above the toilet bowl that are not always used. With minimal fittings, you can get a place for towels or cosmetics.

Narrow and seemingly unusable spaces between or behind doors can, with a little imagination, become a place to put books, magazines or small boxes of useful objects.

In taller houses, spaces close to the ceiling can be used to store things. Poles can be made on which baskets or boxes can be placed. Shelves can also be made around windows, while at the same time providing a pleasant place for reading or relaxing.

I thought the bicycle storage solution pictured below was very clever and practical. I've always wondered what families who don't have a place to keep them do. I think I have found the answer that may be useful to you too.

Shelves as room dividers

Another way to get new storage space is the use of shelf dividers. This also separates the spaces, giving you more privacy.

Reclaiming space under the stairs

For houses or apartments with interior stairs, use of space under the staircase solves the storage problem very well. There are generous places that can be segmented so that various objects can be stored without coming into contact.

Multiply the usefulness of doors or furniture

Adaptation of furniture or other objects in the home, practically doubling their usefulness is another suggestion. Attaching shelves to the pantry, utility or closet door, a higher bed with 2 rows of shelves underneath, a sofa that can double as a storage chest, turning the bathroom door into a library shelf, are just a few ideas.

Spaces in the home can always be adapted and reinvented according to one's taste and imagination. Any idea or solution also means a renovation of the space that can make it more pleasant, more useful and more ... home.

  • Excellent article! I have a studio whose room has a beam above the windows. As there are about 40 cm free I said that there I will install shelves for books, I still have to find the craftsman to do this...
I liked the shelves mounted behind the door... after all, some cleverly crafted shelves are more useful than a huge cupboard.

    Have a nice day!
