Crafting ideas

Let's make our own Christmas decorations!

Can you believe it's 3 weeks until Christmas? I don't! But the year is almost over and already we are all thinking more and more about the holidays, presents, decorations for the house and the tree. I've always thought it was great to be able to give something handmade, or to adorn your house, yard or patio with decorations you've worked hard to make yourself. That's why I thought I'd give you some ideas for Christmas decorations made from wood. They're simple, yet charming and easy to make.

I found it easiest to call on what was already in the house. And we all have toothpicks at home. Well, with these toothpicks you can make some really nice decorations. I'll give you just two examples. Use 8 toothpicks to form a star like in the picture below. Glue where they overlap with a drop of superglue, then wrap red wool around the glue. Tie a longer strand of fleece to one of the corners so you can attach the decoration to the tree branch.

Another idea is to stick toothpicks into a ball of chewing gum. This forms a sphere.

Use a spray paint with metallic paint to colour the sphere. It will become a very beautiful globe.

You can also use wooden stirring sticks to stir the coffee. You can colour them in different colours, then place them in the shape of a star, glue them with superglue and...the decoration is ready.

If you apply some glitter on top it's even more appealing.

You can also make a wreath to put at the entrance. Cut out a cardboard circle. The size depends on how big you want the wreath to be. Glue sticks to the circle, then wrap it with a gold ribbon. It will make a very impressive wreath.

With a little imagination you can make other decorations. To make it easier you can take inspiration from the image below.

In one of my previous articles I told you how much can be made from clothespins. Now it's time to see if you can get your tree star using them.

Once you remove the pliers spring, you can colour the 2 parts before assembly. The star will be even more interesting.

Do you have an old scrabble game and don't use it anymore? No problem! You can use the letters to make little decorations for your Christmas tree.Just stick them on a stand and attach something to stick them on the branch.

Pine cones have always been used for decoration. I thought I'd make no exception. So, if you colour them and glue a bow on them, they will become the perfect 'globe'.

Or you can glue them onto a cardboard heart template. You'll get a very nice wreath for your front door.

If you want to make a Christmas arrangement and don't have anything seasonal, don't despair. Look for a clear glass vase - a bowl, a larger glass, a vase - put cones inside and some twigs. Hang globes from the branches, put a small, lighted lamp in the back and you have a perfect arrangement.

You can also make rustic snowflakes from the twigs to hang on the tree,

or a Christmas tree.

But you can also make things with a little more work to make it feel like Christmas is coming 🙂 All you need is some old planks, a saw to cut them and a drill to drill them. You can use the planks to make a simple Christmas tree,

or a little more complicated.

With a little drawing skill, you can make some really fun decorations for your patio or yard.

A wide variety of decorations can be made with "slices" of branches, but you need to find a place where you can cut the branches or get them from. Once you have them in your possession, everything becomes very simple and it's up to everyone's talent. You can paint them,

glue them onto the template to make a wreath,

or glue several pieces together to make snowman decorations.

At this time of year, making Christmas decorations I think is one of the most beautiful, upbeat and fun things to do. Such an object can also be given as a gift. Believe me, the fact that you made it yourself will be much appreciated.
