Marta's Vineyard is a well-known island in Massachusetts, USA, famous for the vacation homes that many celebrities, businessmen and celebrities own or rent here. The island in the Pacific Ocean can only be reached by water or airplane. It has an approximate surface area of 230 sq km and a population of 16,000, but during the summer months it exceeds 100,000, with many celebrities preferring to vacation here.
Over the years, many wooden houses have been built on the island, real gems. The gingerbread houses are famous for their pastel-colored gingerbread houses that look like doll's houses.
But what I want to show you now is a beautiful vacation home that belongs (or belonged, since the house has been put up for sale) to a couple of well-known writers in the United States, Judy Blume and George Cooper. The house is covered entirely in cedar shingles and is in a gorgeous location on the shores of Lake Tashmoo.
Surrounded by the forest but with a perfect view of the lake, the house seems like the ultimate dream. Around it are simple seating areas for dining or relaxing, where you can admire the lake surrounded by flowers and trees.
The house was built in 1950 and has 2 wings connected by a long hallway, so that both the owners and their guests can carry out their work without being inconvenienced.
The bedrooms are in the attic, reached by climbing a white wooden staircase with antique oak-colored steps.
On one side of the house is the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom, decorated in a rustic, simple style without cluttering it unnecessarily. The wooden bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers seem sufficient.
Everything is complemented by the round window table with 2 different chairs, ideal for writing and meditation.
The bathroom is in the same style, with a claw-footed bathtub, a wrought-iron cabinet with wooden poles and a lovely view of the courtyard.
On the other side of the house there are 3 guest bedrooms with 3 bathrooms, furnished with great attention to detail.
In the living, dining and kitchen area there are a few pieces of old wooden furniture, neatly placed next to newer items and sofas, but which fit in perfectly with the decor. The stone-topped fireplace gives the living room the look of an English cottage.
The kitchen is a mix of old and new very well done, nothing feels out of place,
and the rugs in the dining area simply mesmerized me.
The house also has a covered, enclosed tearoom, a marquise as they used to say in my time, from where you can admire the lake and the view even when the weather is less friendly.
I don't know about you, but this house charmed me. Every object is exactly where it should be, everything fits harmoniously together, nothing is extravagant, nothing is banal. I admit, I'd like to at least dream that I'm in this house. ☺
