The log cabin used in the movie The Bodyguard

Do you remember the movie The Bodyguard? I'm sure you do despite the fact that it's been a while (it was released in 1992). The movie starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner as a pop star and her bodyguard. Towards the end, the movie's action moves to a cabin on Fallon Leaf Lake, a small lake very close to the famous Lake Tahoe. Although the movie's action here reaches very intense moments, it's impossible not to notice the cabin.

It's not just a simple cottage, as the movie suggests, but a luxurious vacation home with 5 bedrooms, a 3 car garage and lake views from every room. It sits right on the lakeshore, surrounded by 3 acres of woodland.

It was designed in 1969 by a famous architect Paul Hamilton for a family who owned it for 45 years. It's all wood - floor, walls, ceiling. Everything that isn't glass is wood. The exception is the stately granite fireplace in the living room.

The 1000 square meter house is named Tallac House after the Tallac Mountains that line the lake and over which the house has a beautiful view.

Enter into the generous living room, very glazed, overlooking both the lake and the Tallac mountains.

Beyond the living room space, there is another place to relax, a strategically placed bar with high bar stools and a table with benches on either side. In the same space is a piano in the same light walnut color as all the surrounding wood.

The house has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. All bedrooms have large windows generously offering views of the lake.

In the kitchen, where scenes from the movie were filmed, no wood was spared either. The poles used for storage give the kitchen a very rustic feel.

The cottage also features the famous pontoon from which Costner jumps off to save the star's child in distress in a boat about to explode.

And let's not forget that it was winter when he jumped into the lake.

In 2015 the house was put up for sale. The broker handling the transaction says he learned a lot of stories linking the house to the movie. He says Whitney simply adored the house and never wanted to leave. The house was chosen for its secluded location, but also because it's next to one of the most beautiful smaller lakes. Also, being only minutes from Nevada or South Lake Tahoe was a big plus for the entire film crew.
