The apartment in the old water tower

I love to read about houses built in the strangest places, to see how the problem of daily living is solved in hard to reach places. I told you once about the attraction of a hotel in Austria - an apartment built on top of a tree. I recently saw an apartment that impressed me even more. It's a much bigger apartment than the one in the tree - that's 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, living room, terrace, 2 garages, elevator - built in a water tower in California.

Surely you've noticed in American movies from the Wild West period, those towers that stood next to the railroad tracks and had a water tank on top for the steam locomotives. One such tower was built at the end of the 17th century and has undergone a number of transformations over the years, becoming the attraction of California beaches.

The tower has been restored with great care for its historic past and what it has represented over the years. With its height of almost 30 meters, it was for a long time the tallest house in Orange. Now, the terrace and living room on the first floor of the apartment offers a panoramic view of the Californian beaches, being 20 meters above the ground.

The apartment can be reached by elevator or stairs. On either side of the entrance are the 2 garages.

The staircase is rebuilt as a homage to the forefathers, with tools and posters recalling the life of railroad workers.

The apartment is generous, 270 square meters. Let's not forget that it's on the site where water used to be stored. Basically, there were around 300,000 liters of water in this place. The first level of the apartment is occupied by the living room, kitchen and bar, and outside is the terrace.

All around there are windows that offer panoramic views of the beach and surroundings. On the terrace there's a small bathing area - a swimming pool, if you want to call it a swimming pool, which is a nice addition to the pool.

The kitchen is fully equipped and functional and the living room has several armchairs and sofas adapted for this round decor and covered with linen-faced cushions in natural colors. The bar seating gives you the opportunity to sip your drink with your eyes on the ocean, with an aquarium of exotic fish next to you. Sit back in the armchairs on the terrace and laze watching the sun sink into the ocean.

The bedrooms are upstairs, where you climb up a spiral staircase with steps and a wooden handrail.

In fact, wood is very present, with much of it being recovered or finished distress. One of the bedrooms is totally finished like this, i.e. the walls, the bed, the mirror frame and the furniture in the bathroom are distressed white.

Upstairs there are 3 other bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, each personalized by the color of the furniture and decorations. In 2 of them you can watch the ocean from your bed.

The apartment can be rented and the owner has done his best to make your stay here perfect. The generous space, the attention to detail, the history integrated into the new life of the tower leave guests with unforgettable memories. In addition he has also prepared little surprises. Hidden inside is the tower's mascot - Mr. Willy Tower - and guests find all sorts of clues to help them find it. And on the living room's wooden ceiling there's a little train route with vintage trains and carriages.
