What is lazura
Lazurais the name given to some materials for staining and protecting wood used outdoors. They are semi-transparent staining solutions, sometimes also called exterior impregnants, which contain stains, resins (oils) and additives that are resistant to UV radiation, weathering, mould and fungi and sometimes insects.
To be effective outdoors, wood finishing products need to meet several conditions:
- to penetrate as deeply as possible into the wood for the best and longest protection;
- be elastic, so that they are not affected when the wood changes in size due to moisture variation;
- allow moisture exchange between the wood and the outside environment, in other words let the wood breathe;
- be resistant to UV radiation.
Let's see if Kreidezeit's coloured lazure meets these conditions.
How oil-based coloured varnish protects wood
Products based on natural oils meet all the above conditions and are often preferred to synthetic ones. By using them, wood is protected while maintaining its natural appearance.
Natural oils can penetrate much deeper into the wood,providing very good protection. Their molecular structure makes this possible, as the molecules of linseed oil - an oil that is part of the lactose composition - are 50 times smaller than those of synthetic products.
Lack of film lets the wood movewhen there are variations in humidity. In the case of film-forming products, movements of the wood can cause the film to crack. A cracked film can no longer protect the object to which it was applied. This does not happen when wood is protected with oil-based lacquer.
The film-free finish does not block the wood or cover its pores, allowing natural moisture exchange with the environment.
Kreidezeit oil-based lye is coloured with natural pigments. They are resistant to UV radiation and do not fade over time. In fact, they are the ones that make the lazur resistant to the sun. A totally transparent product is never recommended for the protection of wood that stands outside. It is the UV radiation that changes the natural colour of the wood and attacks its grain. In order to prevent it from reaching the wood, we need to put a barrier in its way, and the barrier is pigments. That's why even when you want to keep the natural colour of the wood, products that are not totally transparent are recommended.
On what kind of wooden objects can be applied
Lazura can be applied directly to untreated wood used outdoors. It is sufficient polishing it white after which the treatment is made by applying 2-3 layers of varnish, with drying between them.
It can be used for staining and protecting wooden houses, wood used for cladding houses, for protecting wooden fences, garden furniture, woodwork, woodwork and other woodwork. gazebos, pergolas and terraces. Not recommended for decks and outdoor flooring.
Application is simple, with brush or trowel. Do not over-apply. If unabsorbed product remains on the wood, it must be wiped off.
Why oil-based coloured varnish
Oil-based products are a great solution for protecting wood outdoors. Simple application and easy maintenance are the main advantages. Refinishing in case of stained lacquer application is done by applying another coat without further preparation. The sign that another coat needs to be applied is the dry and dull appearance of the finish. This appearance is the result of the oil "washing off" during rain. To remedy the situation, apply another coat of coloured or transparent varnish.
The cold season is coming soon so it's the best time to think about protecting your outdoor wooden objects and buildings. Andcoloured varnish for exterior wood from Kreidezeit is a good choice, especially if you are a fan of natural products.
