Furniture Production Machinery

From music to carpentry, naturally

Alexander Cuibus and Tudor Pop of the Wood Era, Cluj, musicians by profession, have inherited the passion for wood. They were born into families of carpenters, but learned the basics of carpentry in the United States. They returned to the country and initially opened a workshop to refurbish furniture, after which they naturally began to produce. Now they make solid wood furniture on metal frames for restaurants and cafes.

How did you get into this field? Where did the passion for wood come from?

Alexander Cuibus: I got into this field out of passion, and I inherited my passion for wood from my family. We have grandparents and uncles who are carpenters, glaziers. We took this passion further, but a little later. We were both musicians by profession, but we were tired of all the travelling. We wanted to do something locally, and naturally we got into furniture. We spent some time in America, working in the field and learning the basics of carpentry. Then we came back to the country and opened our first furniture reconditioning workshop. After that, production naturally followed.

What exactly do you produce?

Alexander Cuibus: We make solid wood furniture, tables, countertops, wood cladding, upholstery. At the moment we are focusing on solid wood metal frame furniture for HoReCa and can do 2 large jobs per month, furniture for 2 restaurants or cafes. We work on the design made by collaborators, but sometimes we also intervene with suggestions. We discuss with clients and propose solutions based on production experience because designers cannot take into account all the challenges of execution.

What do you think customers appreciate most about the products you offer?

Alexander Cuibus: We think they appreciate most the finishes we produce. Even the designers we work with have noticed the finishes we do on solid wood compared to other workshops. Here, the tree helps us a lot Silent-Power® which is extraordinary. We get perfect surfaces, we almost don't even have to sand the parts after machining.

What does "quality furniture" mean to you?

Tudor Pop: For us, quality furniture is made of the finest materials, precisely crafted and impeccably finished. If the finish is not perfect and the piece is not pleasant to the touch, I think it scores a big minus in the end.

Alexander Cuibus: To achieve quality, you first have to work with good machines that you can rely on at all times. For what we're working on now, the precision that Felder Group machines give us matters a lot. Secondly, the workforce is very important, people have to be well trained and know what they have to do. And last but not least, the materials you work with must be of high quality.
