I look forward to seeing you on September 23, 2023 at the Wood Magazine booth (66A) at the BIFE-SIM trade show to talk about wood finishing and derived panels. The theme of the B2Bife event is Finish defects: why they occur and how to fix them, but we will be able to discuss any other topic you are interested in. I'll be at the Wood Magazine stand throughout the fair (September 21-24), but the agenda is full (see here B2Bife program) we dedicated Saturday from 14.00-16.00 to finishing. I am expecting all of you, professionals or hobbyists, workers in workshops or in large factories to talk about finishing technologies, special techniques, negative influences on the quality of films and other such topics.
My passion is wood
Probably many of you, especially those of you who found out about me by reading the technical articles on wood finishing in Wood Magazine, are wondering if you should believe what you read. Not a few people put their opinions on the net, but they are not always correct. That's why I thought I'd leave below a short curriculum vitae (CV) explaining how I gained my experience in the field.
I am a graduate of the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry, department of Organic Chemistry. Chemistry helped me and helps me a lot to understand the phenomena that occur in finishing and to find a solution to them. But my passion for wood came three years after graduating. After my internship at Combinatul Chimic Giurgiu, in 1988 I transferred to the Wood Industry Research and Design Institute (ICPIL) - later the National Wood Institute (INL) - to work in research, in the Chemistry/Wood Finishing section. Here I developed a passion for wood and learned a lot about its behavior in different situations.
Ten years later, 10 years later, representatives of ICLA - an Italian manufacturer of varnishes and paints - met me at the institute and offered me to represent the company in Romania. This is how ICLA Romania came into being, which, in addition to selling varnishes and paints for wood, aimed to provide as much technical information as possible to workers in the field. We did this with the help of the FINITEH symposium, which brings together finishing specialists from factories at least once a year to discuss new developments and debate the problems they were facing.
After another 10 years, in 2008, ICLA Romania was sold to a multinational in the field. I continued to work for the multinational for almost 7 more years, during which time I was in contact with the biggest factories in the field, with state-of-the-art technologies and finishing materials. It was another period of knowledge accumulation thanks also to the contact with colleagues from different countries.
In 2016 the Wood Magazine was born out of a desire to create an active and informed community of people who work in the wood industry or are just passionate about it. I wanted to pass on as much information as possible from what I have accumulated over time, while staying connected with the field so as not to miss out on the news.
If you want to talk finishing come Saturday, September 23 at the Wood Magazine booth at BIFE-SIM 2023. B2Bife. Come to BIFE!
