I look forward to seeing you on 23 September 2023 at the Wood Magazine stand (66A) at the BIFE-SIM fair to talk about wood finishing and derived panels. The theme of the B2Bife event is Finishing defects: why they occur and how we fix thembut we can discuss any other topic you are interested in. I'll be at the Wood Magazine stand for the duration of the fair (21-24 September), but with a full agenda (see here B2Bife programme) we dedicated Saturday, from 2pm to 4pm, to finishing. I expect all of you, professionals or hobbyists, workers in workshops or large factories to talk about finishing technologies, special techniques, negative influences on film quality and other such topics.
My passion is wood
Probably many of you, especially those of you who learned about me from reading technical articles about wood finishing in Wood Magazine, are wondering if you should believe what you read. Not a few people put their opinions on the net, but they are not always correct. That's why I thought I'd leave a short curriculum vitae (CV) below explaining how I gained my experience in the field.
I am a graduate of the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry, Organic Chemistry section. Chemistry has helped me and helps me a lot to understand the phenomena that occur in finishing and to find a solution to them. But the passion for wood came three years after graduation. After an internship at the Giurgiu Chemical Combine, in 1988 I transferred to the Institute for Research and Design of the Wood Industry (ICPIL) - later to become the National Wood Institute (INL) - to work in research, in the Chemistry/Wood Finishing section. This is where I acquired a passion for wood and learned a lot about its behaviour in different situations.
And 10 years later, at the institute, I met the representatives of ICLA - a lacquer and paint manufacturer in Italy - who proposed me to represent the company in Romania. That's how ICLA Romania was born, which, in addition to selling varnishes and paints for wood, aimed to provide as much technical information as possible to workers in the field. We did this with the help of the FINITEH symposium, which brings together at least once a year finishing specialists from factories to discuss the latest developments and debate the problems they were facing.
After another 10 years, in 2008, ICLA Romania was sold to a multinational in the sector. I continued to work for the multinational for almost 7 more years, during which time I had contact with the big factories in the field, with state-of-the-art technologies and finishing materials. It was another period of knowledge accumulation thanks to the contact with colleagues from different countries.
In 2016 Revista din Lemn was born out of a desire to create an active and informed community of people who work in the wood industry or are just passionate about it. I wanted to pass on as much of the information I had accumulated over time as possible, while staying connected with the field so as not to miss out on the news.
If you want to talk finishing come to the Wood Magazine stand at BIFE-SIM 2023 on Saturday 23 September. B2Bife! Come to BIFE!
