Coincidence or not ... it's posted coincidentally on Dragobete and shows what can be done with some leftover wood from serious projects 😉
Once you have chosen the piece of wood, make a few cuts, a few holes, add a rubber band to help the pieces stay together and start rounding the edges first with a grinder and then with sandpaper.
Sanding with finer grit paper and continue sanding with finer grit paper, and sand by gradually changing to finer grit paper. Stain the wood with a berry or just protect it with a oil specially for wood or with a lake which gives it a nice tufting, possibly punch another hole to add a chain, turn the pieces in opposite directions and you have a heart to keep or give away 🙂
The images I have chosen visually complete the whole process described above. It's not simple, but quite painstaking. But who wouldn't appreciate such a "heartfelt" gesture?
