Furniture Production Machinery

From music to carpentry, naturally

Alexander Cuibus and Tudor Pop of the Wood EraCluj, musicians by profession, inherited their passion for wood. They were born into families of carpenters, but learned the basics of carpentry in the USA. They returned to the country and initially opened a workshop to refurbish furniture, after which they naturally started manufacturing. Now they make solid wood furniture on metal frames for restaurants and cafes.

How did you get into this field? Where did your passion for wood come from?

Alexander Cuibus: I got into this business out of passion, and I inherited my passion for wood from my family. We have grandparents and uncles who are carpenters, glazers. We took that passion further, but a bit later. We were both musicians by profession, but we were tired of traveling. We wanted to do something locally and naturally got into furniture. We spent some time in America working in the field and learning the basics of carpentry. Then we came back to the country and opened a furniture reconditioning workshop at first. After that, production came naturally.

What exactly do you produce?

Alexander Cuibus: We make solid wood furniture, tables, countertops, wood paneling, upholstery. At the moment we are focusing on solid wood metal frame furniture for HoReCa and can do 2 big jobs per month, furniture for 2 restaurants or cafes. We work on the design made by collaborators, but sometimes we also intervene with suggestions. We discuss with our clients and propose solutions based on our production experience because designers cannot take into account all the challenges of execution.

What do you think customers value most in the products you offer?

Alexander Cuibus: We think they appreciate the finishes we do the most. Even the designers we work with have remarked on the finishes we do on solid wood compared to other workshops. This is where the tree really helps Silent-Power® which is extraordinary. We get perfect surfaces, we almost don't even have to sand the parts after machining.

What does "quality furniture" mean to you?

Tudor Pop: For us, quality furniture is furniture made of very good materials, precision workmanship and impeccable finish. If the finish isn't perfect and the piece isn't pleasing to the touch, I think it scores a big minus in the end.

Alexander Cuibus: To achieve quality, first of all you have to work with good machines that you can always rely on. For what we're working on now, the precision that Felder Group machines give us is extremely important. Secondly, the manpower is very important, the people have to be well trained and know what they have to do. And last but not least, the materials you work with have to be quality.
