Edizioni Goliardiche, in collaboration with Catas and Avisa-Federchimica (the Italian association of adhesives manufacturers), has recently published the English version of the book "Adhesives in the furniture industry". The volume, written by Franco Bulian, director of Catas and author of several scientific publications in the field, provides a comprehensive overview of the role of adhesives in the world of furniture production and woodworking.
The book, structured in nine chapters and over 300 pages, explores issues ranging from the theory of adhesive bonds to practical applications in industry. Topics such as the application of edges, substrates, laminating materials, furniture assembly methods and the categorization of different 'families' of adhesives are covered.
The furniture industry has gone through significant transformations over the last five decades, reaching a phase of maturity. This evolution has created new relationships between the actors in the industry, protagonists of a change aimed at optimizing processes through "specialization". Practical knowledge results from the interlinking of different fields and materials, between wood and chemistry, between chipboard and formaldehyde, between wood and vinyl-based adhesives, in a constant search for "best practices" that not only deliver the best quality results, but also take into account the health of working environments and environmental impact.
The availability of this work in English is an important step for an international audience, providing access to a valuable source of information, tests, checks, insights and practical guidance. The author's ability to navigate easily between the theoretical and practical aspects results in an authentic compendium on adhesive bonding that will certainly be useful to many industry professionals.
