Baskets instead of drawers: a great look but also a "work at home" idea

Some time ago I declared my passion, guilty as I said then, for decorative basketswhether wicker, wicker, wicker, twine or cord. And I find the combination of wooden furniture and these baskets really special. The baskets reduce the weight of the furniture, both literally and figuratively, making the final look much softer.

A dark, old-looking piece of furniture is brightened up by having some of the drawers replaced with decorative baskets. The play of the wicker, the possibilities to color them lighter or decorate them with other materials, to personalize them, will "open up" the furniture, make it more friendly.

There are some styles in furniture that go very well with baskets. For example shabby chic looks made especially for them. The finish distress or washed, the light, pastel colors go very well with the natural color of furs, twine or wicker. Baskets can be lined with natural linen or hemp and decorated with lace.

Furniture with baskets instead of drawers is perfect for the bathroom or kitchen. I saw a piece of furniture like this in a hotel at one point and I've taken it. It gives you the feeling that you can organize your bathroom much better by putting things in baskets than you would by putting them in drawers.

In the kitchen, cabinets that have baskets instead of drawers allow you to store vegetables in them. The baskets allow air to circulate, letting vegetables 'breathe' freely.

As a DIY project, replacing drawers with baskets seems like the perfect project. If you have a dresser, an older nightstand, or other furniture with drawers that you want to change, I think this is the best solution. And if you're thinking change the color you've got yourself some new furniture.

The important thing is that there is a base for the drawers, not just the rails they sit on. If it's just the rails you need to find bespoke baskets and that's a bit more complicated. When there is a base you can put several baskets of different sizes. You get a much more interesting look.

Replacing the drawers with baskets sounds like a great idea to me and I'm already thinking about an old chest of drawers lying in the attic. I promise I'll show you how it turned out (only if the result is worth making public 😉 ).
