Sliding doors for more space

Using sliding doors is the way to solve a space problem. We've already seen how well Marian has solved access to the cupboard with industrial sliding door that he made himself. It's true, he wanted very much to make "a barn door" and he made the most of the opportunity. But you don't have to have a tight space or not know how you're going to open your bathroom or kitchen door without hitting the cupboard or fridge to choose sliding doors as the solution. They're more than a stopgap solution.

Where sliding doors can be used

The limit to the use of sliding doors is given by the possibility of fitting sliding systems, the existence of the necessary lateral space for opening (if it cannot be superimposed over another door) and our desire. We can use them on a wardrobe or dressing room, as room doors, as a way of separating a space, as a solution when there is no room for swing doors, when we want a simple partitioning without adding heavy walls to the house.

There are opinions that say that using sliding bathroom doors is not a good solution because they do not provide a tight seal. Because of this, moisture or odours from the bathroom can get into other rooms. There are, however, ingenious constructive solutions that solve these problems very well.

Closets or dressing rooms are where sliding doors are most often used. The confined space in a bedroom is greatly helped by these doors. As for the dressing room, sliding doors allow for a wider opening and easier access to clothes.

Reducing them only to the level of cabinet doors is unfair. Sliding doors do a very good job of widening or closing off spaces, of dividing up large open spaces simply and easily without a lot of fuss, or of hiding access to staircases or storage areas.

They can be made of solid wood, chipboard or MDF, glass, metal or plastic. The design can be classic or modern, depending on the space in which they are used or what you want.

Cradle systems

Basically the difference between the regular door and the sliding door is the system on which the door slides. To be able to use this system, if the doors do not overlap, there needs to be a space on the side at least equal to the width of the door.

There are two main types of sliding systems, depending on the way they are fixed:

  • for overhead doors
  • for framed doors

The sliding door systems are mainly used for wardrobe doors. The mechanism is applied to the cabinet box to which it is attached. It is a discreet, invisible system, being covered by the doors it supports.

Framed sliding door systems are visible and fitted with a track only at the top, which clips to the ceiling or wall. Framed overhead doors are best suited for partitioning spaces because they do not have a bottom rail mounted on the floor. The restriction of using them for cabinets is purely for aesthetic reasons.

If you want a walk-in wardrobe with sliding doors or to furnish interior spaces, find sliding systems at Accessory. You can choose invisible systems for wooden or glass doors, systems for glass doors with synchronised opening/closing, coplanar sliding doors for cabinets, sliding system with a rail at the top and guide roller, complete sliding door system made of aluminium profiles with 2 rails, frameless sliding glass door system with top rail only and much more.

The sliding systems offered by Accesoria have included closing and opening damping devices so that they are very quiet to use. The devices are also available separately, so they can be purchased as such and used with other systems.

Why sliding doors?

And if I still haven't managed to convince you here's a list of reasons why you should choose them if you're planning to remodel or build a dressing room:

  • Streamlines space and makes it more functional
  • Simple partitioning possibilities compared to classic ones
  • Masks appliances or spaces you don't want in plain sight
  • Encloses spaces or masks access to stairs or hallways
  • Quickly and easily separates a space
  • Allows space to be enlarged if necessary
  • Creates the illusion of a much larger space
  • Improves the appearance of the cabinet and makes it more accessible and functional
  • Allows a cupboard in places where there is no space to open a swing door
  • Add modern elements to your space
  • Allows easy access to enclosed spaces
  • They are versatile systems that can be easily adapted to different needs and wishes.

As you can see you have plenty of reasons to choose sliding doors.
