Furniture accessories make the difference

I'm sure it's not just women who know that accessories can make the difference between a plain outfit and a statement. A simple blouse or shirt, a drab colour, can be taken out of anonymity with the help of well-chosen, quality accessories. The same goes for furniture or other objects made of wood or wood-based panels. A simple piece of furniture made of Painted MDF or a veneered straight door will gain personality with an inspired choice of accessories.

Accessories used in the wood industry are very varied. There are handles and knobs for drawers, hinges and knobs for access doors or furniture doors, but also various sophisticated devices with which hard-to-reach cupboard spaces are no longer so "unreachable", drawers can be opened by simply pressing on the drawer front or cupboard interiors can be better organised.

Handles, knobs, latches and fasteners are the most visible. They can make an ordinary framed door look like it belongs on an old piece of furniture or, on the contrary, part of a modern piece.

There is such a wide range, such a diverse offer, that sometimes it takes days to decide what goes best with your new furniture. From the most diverse shapes, to modern colours and innovative materials, everything is designed to best match and personalise your furniture.

It is good to know, however, that not every piece of furniture can be transformed from new to old and vice versa simply by changing the hardware. This is a method that works very well for simple panels, classic finishes, without elements that already position the furniture in one current or another. In such cases choosing accessories that are out of keeping with the design or finish does indeed transform the furniture, but not in the good way of the change idea.

Accessories include hinges, drawer guides, modern locking and unlocking systems and systems for organising cabinets and drawers. The quality of the furniture also depends not only on the workmanship of the wood and the surface finish. Their choice can make furniture much more functional and fortunately there is a very rich supply of such systems and accessories.

The most spectacular ones seem to me to be the ones that make it possible to get into tight or hard-to-reach spaces. Perhaps because I have such a space at kitchen furniture and when I made the furniture I didn't know about them or maybe the existing offer on the market wasn't as modern and diversified as it is now. I find it unbelievable how easily I could have reached the items stored there using such an accessory and how difficult, almost impossible, it is for me now.

Those of you who follow the magazine's posts know that I love old-looking furniture, but also rustic-looking furniture. The other day there was a post with some tips on finishing this type of furniture. I will now add one more, but related to accessories. The drawers of rustic furniture do not need special guides. A rustic piece of furniture must have a drawer placed directly in its drawer box. A simple slide-out opening of such a drawer does not suit this kind of furniture at all. It is important to "hear" the wood when you open the drawer.

The world of accessories is vast and diverse. Both those with the most sophisticated design requirements and those who want systems and solutions for the most functional and ergonomic furniture can find what they want. The companies that distribute them also offer advice to make the choice easier. The advice doesn't stop at the shop, at the end customer who wants to give their furniture a new look by changing the knobs. It continues with business partners, it is a comprehensive service, offered in a business-to-business relationship that helps furniture manufacturers make the best choices, both in terms of aesthetics and functionality, as well as price.
