When it comes to landscaping, it's like the rabbi joke.

If someone were to ask me how it is better to furnish the home, classic or modern, I would answer exactly as in the Rabbi joke. Do you know him?

Two people who disagree on a subject decide to go to the rabbi, known for his wisdom, to tell him which of them is right. The rabbi listens carefully to the first one and says, "You are right." He listens just as carefully to the second and says, "You are right too." Yitzchak, who happens to be there, asks him in puzzlement: "How come, Rabbi? They can't both be right!". And the wise Rabbi replies, "You're right too!"

Choosing to furnish your home modernly is not wrong, just as it is not wrong to furnish it classically. What is important is that the overall image is cohesive, that it is a whole, a welcoming, pleasant and useful space in which we can recognise ourselves and feel at ease.

Furthermore, elements can be combined, with one component being dominant and the other adding a note of diversity and thus enhancing each other. In other words, in a modernly designed space, an old object, full of memories, will have its own charm. Just think how well your grandmother's old chest of drawers or travel trunk would look in the corner of your minimalist apartment. It can double as a coffee table or, with some cushions thrown on top, it can be a stylized sofa.

It also works the other way around. A classic decor, with heavy and massive old furniture, can be "lightened" with a modern object. A chandelier, a simple coffee table with straight, metal legs, an armchair or some modern chairs will make the room more inviting, less 'cluttered'.

I have often come across the idea that an old house can only be furnished classically, that modern elements would not go well with the usual elements of old houses: high doors with many gems, glasvandas, aged parquet, old stoves, brick walls. Nothing could be more wrong. It can be furnished in a modern way, all these elements being the old that highlights the new.

Also, there is nothing stopping us from designing a block apartment in a classic style, maybe only the dimensions 🙂 . The straight and simple lines of such an apartment can be how classic furniture will be showcased.

The two styles can also be put together equally, resulting in a third style - fusion. To avoid mistakes, choose simple objects from each style to create a friendly environment. Don't overload the space, don't try to fill every empty space with something. The more airy it is, the better it will be, making the objects more visible.

As I said, we are all right. With one remark. This whole arrangement should not be done haphazardly. We all have ideas, but not all of us know how to put them into practice. That's why there are people with an aesthetic sense who are in the business of decorating interiors. I'm not saying now that if you want to redecorate your studio you should hire an architect or a designer, but some research beforehand won't hurt. Now there are a lot of possibilities to see spaces arranged according to what we think. There are specialists in the shops who can help us to get the best colour match. The important thing is to be open, to call on them, and even if we start from the idea "I know best what's good for me", to be careful that it might not always work out in practice.

Yes, we know what we want, but maybe we don't always have the knowledge to get to our dream setting. Outside help, even if we find it on our own, by looking in specialist shops, magazines or on the internet, can save us from future disappointment. Because no matter how convinced we are that we did the right thing, we might not be so convinced that we were right when we first say "that small table looked better" or "the other colour was better".
